MBBS Final Result- Batch 3 (2012) is out

Final Result of MBBS taken by the PAHS for its third batch is out. Fifty-five students have been selected under various categories. The Admission OSCE was taken on 29, 30 and 31 Asadh 2069 from the students who were able to pass the written entrance. Congratulation to all the successful candidates. Note:

1. Selected candidates are informed to compulsarily contact the Dean Office of the School of Medicine of the academy at 11:00 am on 17 Bhadra 2069. Selected students have to be present in the interaction program  which is to be held at 1:00 pm on the same day.

2. Parents/ Guardian of the selected students are requested to attend the orientation program that will be held at 1:00 pm on 18 Bhadra 2069.

3. Selected candidates have to be get admitted in the School of Medicine of the Academy from 19   Bhadra 2069 to 2 ashwin 2069. The seats left out after the date will be automatically filled by the candidates from waiting list on merit basis.

 

PAHS held Admission OSCE

PAHS went through its final student selection process for the third batch of its medical school. An  Admission Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) was held from 13-15 July 2012 (29-37 Asadh 2069) to select students who demonstrates the highest aptitude for training and compassion to serve Nepal as per the PAHS mission. All the students who passed the written examination were eligible for the sit in the Admission OSCE.

We highly appreciate Paul Farmer, MD, PhD, the great  for the delivering Special Guest Lecture on “Building Effective Health Systems: Lessons from Rural Haiti and Rwanda” at the PAHS Auditorium on 25th June 2012 amid the presence of special national and international guests attendants and PAHS family. Medical anthropologist and physician Farmer is the Kolokotrones University Professor, Harvard University; Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School; and a founding director of Partners In Health (PIH), an international non-profit organization that provides direct health care services and undertakes research and advocacy activities on behalf of those who are sick and living in poverty. Beside this Farmer is also the Chair of Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard University cum Chief of Division of Global Health Equity, Birmingham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, USA and Chief of the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston, and served for ten years as medical director of a charity hospital, L’Hôpital Bon Sauveur, in rural Haiti. Dr. Farmer is also the UN Deputy Special Envoy for Haiti, under Special Envoy Bill Clinton.

Dr. Farmer has extensively publications on health and human rights Partner to the Poor: A Paul Farmer Reader being the most recent one, and about the role of social inequalities in the distribution and outcome of infectious diseases  the recipient of the various prestigious awards.

PAHS participates in People’s Health Assembly

A team led by Vice Chancellor Dr Arjun Karki with Head of Department of Community Health Sciences Dr Kedar Prasad Baral and first batch student of PAHS School of Medicine Mr. Sandesh Karki has left for South Africa on an invitation for Third People’s Health Assembly (PHA3) going to be held from 6-11 July 2012. The assembly is said to be hosted by  University of the Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa under the flagship of People’s Health Movement.

People’s Health Movement, global network bringing together grassroots health activists, civil society organisations and academic institutions from around the world, particularly from low and middle income countries with currently in presence in around 70 countries. PHM works towards the revitalization of Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) as described in the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978, as well as to address the social determinants of health, in particular the growing inequity within and between nations mostly due to unfair economic structures.

Israeli Ambassador handed over books to PAHS

05 July 2012, Patan Academy of Health Sciences has been graced with the visit of His Excellency Hanan Goder-Goldberger, the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Nepal. His Excellency also handed over  a collection the books to Prof. Dr. Rajesh Gangol, Dean of the School of medicine amidst a ceremony held at the auditorium of the Academy.

The books were sent from the Medical School for International Health (Soroka University Medical Center), Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, Israel with the initiative of Professor Michael Alkan for the students of Patan Academy of Medical Science. Prof. Alkan is also an active member of the International  Advisory Board and has been instrumental in promoting Patan Academy for Health Science in Israel since its inception in 2008.

During the Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Gangol expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the two hospitals and the universities. He hopes that this cooperation will further develop in the future.

Also the Ambassador Goder-Goldberger expressed his satisfaction at the ongoing cooperation between the two institutions and said that the Embassy will be happy to see such projects in the future too. His excellency also took a short tour of the Academy during the visit.

 

 

Australian Ambassador visit PAHS

HE Susan Grace, Australian Ambassador to Nepal

 

22 July 2012, PAHS was graced by the honorary visit of HE Susan Grace, the Australian Ambassador to Nepal. The purpose of the visit was to appraise what PAHS and Patan Hospital has been doing for the health sector in Nepal. During the visit, Her Excellency was briefed about the PAHS and Hospital by the Dean of School of Medicine Dr. Rajesh Nath Gongal and Dr. Bruce Hayes respectively which was then followed by a tour of both the hospital and the Basic Science department of PAHS. Also there was organized an interaction session with students an an exhibition of the books recently received at PAHS Library as a kind gift from Mc-GRAWHILL Education Australia with an initiation of ‘Wake up! group from Australia’.

The visit was accompanied by Victoria Bannon- country representative, Nepal Intl federation of Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies and other officials from the Embassy.

Result of the written test for the third batch of students held on 16 Baisakh 2069 (28 April 2012) has been published.  Please  Check the PAHS Notice Board for the same.

Notice for Admission OSCE:

  1. Those who are qualified in the written examination are subjected to Admission OSCE which is going to be held from 29 Asar 2069 (13 July 2012) onward.
  2. Selected candidates have to come to Dean office on 25 and 26 Asar 2069 (9-10 July 2012) from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to get the admit card re-stamped and for the Admission OSCE schedule.
  3. Those who have not re-stamped the admit card are not allowed to sit for an Admission OSCE and thus the examination will be cancelled.
  4. There will not be any changes on the schedule of Admission OSCE at any cost.
  5. Final notice of admission will be published only after the decision of the annual review of Nepal Medical Council.

Result can also be seen on the national dailies ‘Kantipur’ and ‘Gorkhapatra’ dated 04 Asar 2069 (18 June 2012).
